Jurassic World Rebirth Trailer Delivers Action and Nostalgia

Universal Pictures has unveiled the final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth ahead of its Summer theatrical run. The film, which opens over the Fourth of July weekend in 2025, gives fans one more look at the rebooted Jurassic World series and the first trip back to the original site of Jurassic Park. Jurassic World Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali and sends the two on a mission to find the cure for a mysterious disease among prehistoric monsters.

Jurassic World Rebirth is the fourth film in the Jurassic World series and the seventh film in the overall Jurassic Park franchise. The Steven Spielberg-directed Jurassic Park first launched in 1993. Gareth Edwards directs this fourth film in the Jurassic World series and previously directed 2014’s Godzilla. Jurassic World Rebirth is scripted by David Koepp, who also wrote the original Jurassic Park and The Lost World (1997).

The official synopsis reads: “Five years after Jurassic World Dominion, dinosaurs have become unwelcome on Earth, with the environment getting ever more hostile to them. The small number of survivors is confined to the few isolated equatorial regions whose environment most closely resembles their original natural habitat. The three largest dinosaurs in each land, sea, and air biosphere possess genetic material believed to contain the key to a miracle new drug that can save millions of lives, and a crack covert operations team led by Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) is sent in to extract that vital genetic code. Their mission is thrown into chaos by an opportunistic robbery attempt by a family on a boating holiday, who find themselves shipwrecked on an island where dinosaurs are only the least of their problems. It turns out that this deserted island was once the site of a secret Jurassic Park research project, and the characters discover that the whole place is much more sinister than it seems.”

Who’s Who in the Jurassic World?

Jurassic World Rebirth is a star-studded affair. Johansson and Ali are joined by Rupert Friend as Martin Krebs, a pharmaceutical company representative who isn’t who he seems; Jonathan Bailey as Henry Loomis, a paleontologist; Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado, patriarch of the family on the boating holiday; and Luna Blaise, David Iacano, and Audrina Miranda as his three children. Bechir Sylvain is part of the mission team. Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge also have roles in the film but are not named in the official synopsis.

The final trailer reuses much of the footage from February’s first trailer. The action-packed scene work and eye-popping shots of prehistoric monsters draw the viewer into the prehistoric action. This latest trailer opens with a lab worker in a hazmat suit who is stymied by a roaring T-Rex after entering its holding cell. “Help! Help!” he yells over the dinosaur’s bellowing as he searches for an escape—but it is already too late. The trailer establishes that this is a different sort of Jurassic Park film with much higher stakes, more explosive action sequences, and, yes, some big dino chomping.

Fans of dinosaurs, in particular, will enjoy a key set piece teased in this trailer—an attempted heist of an enormous pterosaur egg. This may be an egg of a Quetzalcoatlus northropi, an extinct pterosaur that Jurassic World: Dominion calls “a flying carnivore the size of an F-16.” The film also teases the franchise’s most infamous prehistoric predator: the raptor. Fans will also be able to check out a new sea creature in Rebirth, as this film brings back the mosasaur, the giant aquatic reptile.

Dialogue in the trailer also teases that the now-deserted island once “contained the worst of the worst,” the most aggressive and unpredictable dinosaurs cloned at Jurassic Park’s secret research facility. The return to the original Jurassic Park island and the call back to classic movie elements, even beyond the dinosaurs, is deliberate. While this is a reboot in some ways—Rebirth resets the film franchise and focuses more on elite teams of soldier-experts—the trailers reveal that it will also walk in the footsteps of the original films that made the Jurassic Park series what it is today.

Fans will see plenty of dinosaurs and typical prehistoric threats, as Johansson is sent to fight off massive monsters. Her expert character is trained for the battle, and the trailer shows her in action against dinosaurs in several cinematic escapes. After a brief (and fleeting) glimpse of a botched human robbery attempt, Johansson is shown running through the jungle to escape, trying to hide out in the submerged wreckage of a sunken ship, and finally racing to escape through the air as a prehistoric reptile attacks.

Jurassic World Rebirth will be released in theaters on July 2, 2025.
