Final Footage of Ballerina Brings Revenge to the Forefront

Fans of the John Wick franchise can rejoice, for the final trailer for Ana de Armas-fronted spin-off Ballerina has dropped, and is every bit as cool and crisp as you could expect.

Set during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which released in 2019, Ballerina follows Keanu Reeves’ title character being placed “excommunicado” by the High Table after killing Santino D’Antonio, played by Saun Shasmasti, on the grounds of the Continental Hotel. A multi-million-dollar bounty has now been placed on his head, and after being helped by the Director (Anjelica Huston) of the Ruska Roma, Wick fled over New York City to the crime syndicate’s headquarters.

The mysterious Director and her group of ruthless teenagers would prove to be both the best training Wick had ever received and his salvation, as well as a cadre of assassins-in-training. In Parabellum, audiences were able to see a young ballerina, played by Unity Phelan, practice on a stage. That character was named Eve Macarro, and she is the main protagonist in the new film.

Ana de Armas is joined in the film by several returning stars, like Huston and Ian McShane as Winston, the manager of the Continental Hotel. A special and bittersweet appearance is made by the late Lance Reddick, who died in March 2023, as long-time John Wick cast member Charon, the Continental’s efficient concierge. Gabriel Byrne also makes an appearance in the role of the Chancellor, the film’s villain.

Ana de Armas also shares the screen with Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Eve’s mentor, Nogi, Norman Reedus as Daniel Pine, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and David Castañeda. However, despite the clear presence of the five additional cast members, the parts that these actors play in the film have not been made public.

Background and First Trailer

The world of Ballerina was established and built by director Chad Stahelski and company over a decade ago, with the first John Wick film in 2014. It was clear right from the beginning that this was no ordinary franchise, but one with heart, with emotion, and with just the right amount of adrenaline to make audiences go wild.

The action in the John Wick movies is fast and precise, as cool as could be. So many times over the years, the franchise has married off the strong handlings of action and choreography with the characters’ motivations for that action, in such a way as to make it almost transcendental. It is this background and history that build up and make a spin-off like Ballerina possible.

Ana de Armas, a prominent actress and ex-model, was revealed in the fall of 2024 as the chosen one to take up the rreinsof this latest John Wick adventure. In the first trailer for the film, audiences get a small taste of the Macarro backstory.

Abandoned at a young age and brought up in an orphanage, Eve’s one singular goal, as she recites repeatedly, is to avenge the murder of her father. She enters the Ruska Roma — also called “The Church” — and is accepted into their ranks to become one of their next generation of ballerina-assassins.

The first trailer focused on Eve’s backstory and why she came to be in the organization in the first place. This would set up her main motivation: revenge. The trailer left viewers with the tiniest of looks at John Wick (Keanu Reeves), and gave us some first details as to his connection to the protagonist.

The Second Trailer

In the second trailer, which dropped in March of 2025, audiences got more of what they wanted, as the focus here is almost entirely on Eve and Wick. We get to see them meet in a scene that has to take place somewhere cold, given the snowfall we can see on screen. However, this meeting between the characters is just the first piece in the larger puzzle.

Audiences get to see John Wick more than Eve at this point, but the tease is there that these two will have some quality screen time in the film, and most likely some reciprocal understanding of one another, given their drives.

The Final Trailer

As the title may suggest, this is the final trailer audiences will get before the film’s release on June 6, 2025. However, with each trailer, fans can get a better picture and a more solid understanding of what this Ballerina will look like.

In the final trailer, Wick is first seen aiming at Eve, who has her back to the camera and is clearly in danger. The trailer then proceeds to mix shots that we have seen from the second trailer, as well as fresh material for the first time, in an energetic montage.

Audiences get to see Ana de Armas battle against an incredible number of people, once again with the choreographed and stylized movements the franchise is known for. In what are some rather serious scenes, we get to see Eve take on different opponents, in both close quarters and with guns.

Ana de Armas gets to display her acting and physicality in the role, as she manages to both show a certain type of character and use her agility to combat a variety of foes. The final shot of the traile,r as the screen cuts to black ,gives viewers Eve iamida battle while a voiceover lays down an incredibly serious tone to her purpose and mission: “This isn’t done until they’re dead.”
